DAYTONA BEACH, FL -- Senior guard Brian Scordato (Mt. Kisco, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) scored a game-high 20 points and had a double-double with his 10 rebounds, but Union lost 70-66 vs. Drew University at the Land of Magic Classic Wednesday.
The Dutchmen (5-3) had a 40-25 first half lead, and shot 52% in the first half in making 17 of 33 shots from the floor. But the Rangers shot 56% (14 for 25) in the second half and outscored the Dutchmen, 45-26 in the second stanza.
Scordato, who became the 14th men's basketball player at Union to record 1,000 career points, had a season-high point total, and also added two steals and two blocked shots. John Cagianello (Wethersfield, CT/Loomis Chaffee), who came in averaging a team-leading 28.3 points per game through seven games, was held to 17 points. Darcy Bonner (Chicago, IL/Loyola Academy) added 10 points for the Dutchmen.
Chris Murphy (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Iona Prep) had a game-high seven assists for Union.
Chris Lopez led the Rangers (4-5) with 16 points, while Gerard Mullin added 13 and Sam Taub scored 12 for the victors. Drew shot 50% for the game while the Dutchmen shot 45%, and the Rangers had a 30-29 rebounding advantage.
Union continues play in the Land of Magic Classic Thursday with a 3 p.m. game against Nichols.
